Eyelets

Eyelet: a small hole, often with a metal rim, through which a thread, lace, line etc. can be passed.

– a fastening

– an orifice or opening

– a perforation

– a drain

Grommet: used to prevent tearing or abrasion of pierced material, to cover sharp edges of the piercing or both.

To strengthen holes in:

– boots and shoes

-laced clothing such as corsets

-curtains

-items that require hanging from holes

When used in sailing they are called Cringles

I can’t imagine how many eyelets I have sewn in the past few weeks ….
