I have spent the last couple of weeks on the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides. It is about as far west as you can get and still be in Britain and is a place that takes time and effort to get to. I spent the time walking, looking and absorbing this place. I like to keep a diary, drawing and writing about the impressions I see and hear.
Kathleen Jamie, poet and nature writer, says in her book Sightlines ‘…. keep looking. That’s what the keen eyed naturalists say. Keep looking. Keep looking even when there’s nothing much to see. That way your eye learns what’s common, so when the uncommon appears your eye will tell you.’
These are some of the things I saw by stopping and looking.
