Moon

Last night, for a short time, this phenomenom occured around the moon; it is a luna corona.  When the moon shines through a thin layer of cloud, light and dark rings can appear around it. They are produced by the diffraction of light through tiny water droplets in the cloud. A full corona consists of a blue/white central disc with a brown/red outer edge – the aureole – and this is what I was lucky enough to observe just before I went to bed.
